THE SANCTUARY
The architectural structure of the sanctuary is simple and linear. The style is modern with Renaissance elements. On the facade, inaugurated in 1933, there are three doors with doorposts made in dark cement.
Above the central door is a marble medallion representing the "Madonna del Rosario" , while above the side doors you can find the statues of St. John and St. Joseph.
THE SANCTUARY INSIDE
In the centre of the facade a big stained glass window diffuses the polychrome light inside. The apsidal Latin cross plan has just one nave; the dome rises above the crossing point of the two transepts, lightened by luminous full-length windows. The main altar, rich in marbles and carvings, is placed over three rows of steps. At the centre, over the tabernacle, is the miraculous picture of the Virgin Mary. Over the two doors that lead to the choir you can admire the wonderful statues of St. Anne and St. Gioacchino.
Above the main entrance there is the organ.
Finely carved polychrome marbles can be admired in the Sancta Sanctorum, while the walls are covered with many small paintings and ex-votos in fulfillment of a vow or in gratitude for a received grace.
ANCIENTNESS OF THE SANCTUARY
The sanctuary origins are very ancient and go back to the XIV century when the Madonna appeared. Soon after the apparition the people in L'Ago wanted to build a small chapel. The first written news date back to 1518. At that time the sanctuary was already well known.
